Every year since 2004, the “European Immunization Week” initiative has been implemented, the aim of which is to raise public awareness about immunization and protect the population from infectious diseases through vaccinations, the Ministry of Health informs.

“This year it starts on April 25 and will continue until April 30. The motto of the European Immunization Week 2022 initiative is “Sustainability for all”, aiming to value the role and importance of vaccines in the context of health and well-being throughout life.

“For centuries, vaccinations have been the best means of immunity and protection against infectious diseases. The last pandemic also showed how important the role of vaccination is in terms of preventing, overcoming and reducing the burden of disease,” said Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan.

“Vaccines have saved more lives than any other medical intervention in the world. For two and a quarter centuries, vaccines have proven safe and effective in eradicating deadly and debilitating infections worldwide. Every parent is constantly looking for ways to raise and protect their children healthy. Immunizations give our children the opportunity to realize the promise of longer, healthier, more productive lives. And we all have to fight for that. However, the value of vaccinations is not measured by the injected doses, but by the minutes that are given to live a long and healthy life,” said Dr. Jihan Tauila, WHO representative in Armenia.

Infectious diseases prevented by routine vaccinations in Armenia are: diphtheria, whooping cough, whooping cough, measles, rubella, epidemic parotitis (mumps), poliomyelitis, hepatitis “A” and “B”, tuberculosis, HIV, rotavirus, meningococcal, pneumococcal, human papillomavirus infections. , tularemia, seasonal influenza, rabies, which are included in the national calendar of honors.

In the process of preventing the coronavirus disease, the role and importance of vaccines, including a booster dose, is also emphasized, providing an opportunity to prevent severe forms of the disease and deaths. Booster vaccinations once again stimulate the immune system and induce greater protection against COVID-19, including newly emerging strains.

The Ministry of Health recommends at least 3 months after the full course of vaccination against COVID-19 to carry out booster vaccination with a booster dose, giving priority to people in risk groups, in particular, people aged 65 and older, people with chronic diseases, healthcare workers, etc.
