Report: After 20 years – “Eli Makbeel” returns to the screen

Exactly two decades after it went off the screen, the American comedy-drama series “Ellie McBeal” returns to television. This was reported tonight (Saturday) on the American entertainment website “Deadline”.

According to the report, the American television network ABC is working on a sequel series that will this time follow an African-American lawyer who joins the ranks of the “Cage & Fish” law firm after graduating from law school, where the original series took place. The new main character is Rene’s daughter, Ellie’s roommate.

It was also reported on the website that the television network approached actress Calista Flockhart with an offer to return to play the character of Ellie Makbil and in addition to serve as executive producer of the subsidiary series. However, it is believed that Flockhart is not expected to respond to the offer until the writing of the script is completed.

“Ellie McBeal” aired for five seasons on the American Fox network for five seasons from 1997 to 2002. The series was created by the American screenwriter and producer David E. Kelly, who signed other successful series such as “LA Attorney”, “Dougie Hauser”, “Chicago Hope”, “Boston Legal” and “Big Little Lies”. The series won four Golden Globe Awards and seven Emmy Awards.
