Lahore: Before the Asia Cup cricket tournament, a heavy blow directly to Pakistan. Injured star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was ruled out before the start of the tournament. The Pakistan Cricket Board’s medical team has advised Shaheen Shah Afridi to rest for four to six weeks. Apart from the Asia Cup, the star will also miss the home series against England.
Shaheen Shah Afridi is the Pakistani left-arm pacer who was thought to be the most crucial against Team India in the Asia Cup. In recent times, left-arm pacers, including in England, have posed a serious threat to Indian batsmen. As the India-Pak teams are likely to meet in three matches in the Asia Cup, the star’s absence will be a big blow for Babar Azam and his team. Shaheen injured his right knee ligament during the first Test against Sri Lanka in goal. The 22-year-old was in the squad for the ongoing ODI series against the Netherlands but did not play the first two matches.
Although Shaheen Shah Afridi is disappointed that he will not be able to play in the Asia Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Medical Officer said that the player will recover quickly from the injury. He said that it is hoped that Shaheen will return to competitive cricket in October. The Pakistan team’s effort can prepare Shaheen Afridi before the T20 World Cup starting on October 16 in Australia. Shaheen’s replacement for the Asia Cup is yet to be announced. Pakistan’s first match in the tournament is against India on August 28 in Dubai.
