Report: Fenerbahce tries to attach Eli Okovo

by time news

We are only at the beginning of June and across Europe quite a few particularly interesting deals have been reported that have been closed in European basketball. Now, according to a report in Basketnews, one of the most surprising players in last season’s Euroleague, Eli Okubu, is in talks with Turkish Fenerbahce.

As you may recall, Okubo, who was selected No. 31 in the 2018 NBA Draft, failed to fit well into the best league in the world and at the start of the current season joined the French Villarban. Together with his team he started the season in a particularly surprising way, but later he was injured and the team experienced a decline.

The 24-year-old Okubo eventually finished the season as the sixth-highest scorer in the Euroleague, averaging 14.5 points per game and showing that he is a hopeless scorer. The French guard for his part has not yet said he is desperate when it comes to the NBA, and he still wants to return to the best league in the world, although at the moment there is no indication that this is going to happen this summer.

Fenerbahce, for their part, and especially those who are expected to be appointed as the team’s coach, Dimitris Itudis, will have to make a difficult decision regarding the back line. As you may recall, Nando de Colo is ending a contract this summer, and with him Piriya Henry, on whom the team has an option for next season. It is likely that if a player like Okubo, who becomes a free agent in the summer, arrives, the club will have to give up at least one of the two mentioned above.
