REPORT ON THE HEALTH SYSTEM CURRENT SITUATION AND PROSPECTS FOR THE FUTURE.
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]This report analyzes the health profile of the population in Spain based on the main indicators that report on the health status of the population (including mental health); addresses the situation and challenges of the system from the perspective of the coverage and universality of the system, as well as the human and physical resources it has; describes the activity provided at the main levels of care (primary care and specialized/hospital care), recording the significant increase in attendance and activity, paying special attention to the impact of the pandemic, its consequences and the current situation. Mental health appears throughout the text, especially between pages 121-125. It concludes that “the insufficiency of resources allocated to mental health care in the National Health System has led to the rise of the private sector in this area of care. 8 out of every 10 psychiatric consultations are carried out in that sector while the public system accounts for only 2 out of every 10. This distribution of total activity, which implies expense for the majority of patients, can result in a situation of inverse care. , those who need them most receive less attention, since the segments with fewer economic resources are precisely the ones most exposed to the risk of suffering from mental health problems.”[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Authorship: Economic and Social Council of Spain
