The sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine continue to emerge in the world of sports as well, when according to the German “Bild”, RB’s rival Leipzig in the last eight of the Europa League, Spartak Moscow, will be eliminated from action by UEFA. As a result, the bulls will automatically advance to the quarterfinals.

Spartak, who secured their place in the quarter-finals after finishing first in the home leg, are the only team from Russia left in the European factories after last week Zenit were eliminated in the Europa League playoffs with a 3-2 loss to Spanish side Betis in the two games.

Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzaf said, “We continue to be in close contact with the associations and trust UEFA and its decision. We assume the games will be canceled.” Spartak’s games against Leipzig were scheduled for March 10 and 17.

* Meanwhile, Sharif’s coach who was sacked last week from the Europa League, Ukrainian Yuri Vernidov, has returned to his homeland from Moldova and joined the fighting forces. Just five months ago, the 56-year-old coach led the Moldovan champions to a sensational victory over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the home leg of the Champions League.

* After Manor Solomon left Ukraine, his Brazilian friends from Shakhtar Donetsk also managed to leave the country and reach Romania. Italian coach Roberto de Zerbi has also left for the neighboring country.
