The Danish authorities have detained the Russian research vessel Akademik Ioffe on the roadstead of the Skagen port. The ship’s documents were seized, the Russian Embassy in Denmark reported on Wednesday, November 3. The incident took place on November 1, the diplomatic mission added.

The arrest of a Russian state-owned vessel is an interim measure in a third-party claim, the embassy explained. According to him, the statement of claim is related to the previous activities of the vessel. The diplomatic mission submitted copies of the court decisions to the Russian Foreign Ministry. The foreign affairs agencies of the Russian Federation and Denmark maintain contacts on this issue.

TASS: The claim was filed by a travel agency from Canada

The lawsuit was filed by the Canadian company One Ocean Expeditions Ltd, TASS agency reports with reference to the diplomatic mission attaché Maria Syrovatko. This firm organizes expeditions in the North Atlantic Ocean and off the coast of Central and South America, as well as Antarctica.

“Akademik Ioffe” was built in 1988. Among other things, the ship was used for experiments on long-range sound propagation in the ocean.
