Revised Electricity Charges for Flats in Tamil Nadu to be Effective from November 1

Chennai – The Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that revised electricity charges for common use of flats will be effective from tomorrow, November 1. In a press release issued by the Tamil Nadu Government, it was stated that the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Authority has created a new low voltage street strip ID for public use in flats, as per the Electricity Tariff Order No. 7 dated September 2022.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu also expressed concerns over the impact of high electricity charges on the middle-class residents living in these flats. Taking into consideration the views expressed by various residents’ welfare associations, the public utility charges for flats with ten houses or less and three floors or less without lift facility will be reduced from eight rupees 15 paisa to five rupees 50 paise per unit.

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has introduced a new low voltage tariff category, IE, as per the policy guidelines of the Government of Tamil Nadu. This category is specifically for houses with ten houses or less and three floors or less without lift facility. The authority has fixed the electricity tariff for these houses at Rs. 5.50 per unit. These revised charges will be effective from November 1.

This decision comes as a relief to the residents of flats who have been burdened with high electricity charges. The reduction in charges aims to ease the financial burden on the middle-class residents living in these flats.

Residents and welfare associations have expressed their gratitude to the Government of Tamil Nadu for considering their concerns and taking appropriate action to address the issue. They believe that the revised charges will bring much-needed relief to the residents, especially during these challenging times.

The announcement of the revised electricity charges has been well-received by the public, and residents are eagerly awaiting the implementation of the new tariff. The reduced charges are expected to provide significant savings for the residents, allowing them to allocate their finances to other essential expenses.

With the revised electricity charges set to come into effect from November 1, the residents of flats in Tamil Nadu can look forward to more manageable electricity bills, providing them with financial stability and relief.
