A family doctor, Riccardo Ferrarrelli, 38, was found dead in his Nuoro, Italy home yesterday afternoon, prompting a police investigation. The physician, who had been practicing in the city since 2024, was originally from Rome.
Concern grew when Ferrarrelli’s parents, residing in Rome, were unable to reach him since Tuesday. He failed to appear at his clinic Wednesday morning, and repeated attempts to contact him, even through the on-call service, were unsuccessful. Ultimately, they requested police intervention.
The Scene and Initial Findings
What was discovered at the doctor’s apartment? Rescuers, including firefighters, gained entry to Ferrarrelli’s first-floor apartment by forcing the front door. Inside, they discovered the doctor lifeless in the living room, alongside medical personnel from Areus-112.
The apartment showed no signs of a break-in or struggle, and the door was locked from the inside, initially suggesting no third-party involvement. Officers from the Flying Squad, supported by the Scientific Police, are currently investigating.
Possible Causes Under Review
Authorities are working to determine the cause of death. Investigators are considering possibilities including a sudden illness or potential intoxication. Medico-legal tests are expected to provide more definitive answers in the coming hours.
A Community in Shock
The news has deeply affected the community and Ferrarrelli’s approximately 1,800 patients. The doctor had recently been pursuing further specialization. Both of his practices, located on via Funtana Buddia and Corso Garibaldi, remained closed Wednesday.
Ferrarrelli, originally from Rome, had a previous relationship in Oliena, which ended some time ago. In recent months, he had lived alone and reportedly dedicated himself primarily to his work.
Did you know? Ferrarrelli was responsible for the care of up to 1,800 patients in the Nuoro area.
