Mitte Played Walter Jr. in Breaking Bad
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, on August 21, 1992, the young actor moved to Los Angeles when he was 12 or 13 years old to begin acting. He secured the role that defined his early career when he was cast as Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on the critically acclaimed AMC drama Breaking Bad. Starring alongside Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn across five seasons from 2008 to 2013, Mitte portrayed the teenage son of a high school chemistry teacher turned methamphetamine producer.
The character shared the actor’s real-life condition: cerebral palsy, a permanent physical disability affecting movement and posture that was diagnosed when he was three years old.
Creator Vince Gilligan based Walter Jr. on a college friend who died after graduating. For Mitte, the Emmy Award-winning series served as his breakout platform. He noted in later interviews that early critical acclaim kept the show afloat during its initial seasons before it achieved massive global viewership. In 2014, he shared in a SAG Award for Ensemble in a Drama Series alongside his castmates.
His portrayal of Walter White’s son also earned him the SAG-AFTRA Harold Russell Award in 2013. Beyond his time on the AMC hit, Mitte made early appearances in popular television shows such as Hannah Montana and Everybody Hates Chris.
Advocacy Work and Public Service Beyond Acting
Offscreen, Mitte channeled his visibility into widespread disability awareness, inclusion, and philanthropy. He served as a prominent ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, joining the hospital system where he was diagnosed to lead the anti-bullying initiative Cut the Bull
as a celebrity spokesperson.
He also acted as president of The Mitte Foundation, an organization supporting philanthropic efforts, community initiatives, and marginalized community needs in South Texas. His representative, Sean Reilly, emphasized that Mitte used his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities.
His philosophy on living with a physical condition remained a cornerstone of his public speaking engagements.
Having a disability, it’s not a disability. It’s knowledge that you can take into the world.

Mitte Acted in Television and Independent Films
Mitte maintained an active career across television and independent film following the conclusion of Breaking Bad. His credits included roles in Switched at Birth, The Guardians of Justice, and The Oak Room. In 2021, he starred in the wrestling drama Triumph, earning a Ruderman Family Foundation Seal of Authentic Representation for his portrayal of a high schooler with cerebral palsy. He also starred opposite Dove Cameron in 2024’s Love Me Dead and opposite Finn Wittrock in 2025’s Westhampton.
His most recent animation credit included voicing a role in HCBS Final Rule: The Animated Series, highlighting changes to Medicaid services. He also appeared on podcasts discussing his career and teasing narrative possibilities for the extended Breaking Bad universe alongside co-star Luis Moncada.
Following news of his death, former co-stars shared emotional tributes across media platforms.
