Rodrygo to Arsenal: Liverpool Transfer Snub?

by liam.oconnor - Sports Editor

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes is reportedly prioritizing a move to Arsenal over interest from Liverpool, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The Brazilian international has been a key contributor to Real Madrid’s success, securing multiple La Liga titles and a pair of Champions League trophies, alongside other significant cup victories.

However, the arrival of Kylian Mbappé last summer diminished Rodrygo’s role in the starting eleven, and he found regular playing time difficult to come by, starting only one match during the Club World Cup.

As a result, the forward’s future has become a prominent topic in the current transfer window. Fichajes reports that Rodrygo is open to departing the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu if Los Blancos deem him surplus to requirements.

Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal have all expressed interest in the former Santos player, hoping to capitalize on the situation. Paris Saint-Germain has also been tentatively linked with a potential move.

Despite interest from several top clubs, the 24-year-old is leaning towards rejecting three of those offers in favor of joining Arsenal. This signals the significant progress Mikel Arteta has made with the club since assuming the managerial role in 2019, with the Gunners reportedly prepared to invest around £78 million to secure his signature.

Rodrygo’s Potential Move to Arsenal

Liverpool are actively seeking a new forward, with Luis Diaz potentially departing and Darwin Núñez expected to leave this summer.

Arsenal, meanwhile, aim to strengthen their attacking options to close the gap with Liverpool. They are pursuing Viktor Gyokeres to reinforce the center-forward position, and Noni Madueke is nearing a deal to provide support for Bukayo Saka.

Arteta also desires a new left winger, with Eberechi Eze and Anthony Gordon also under consideration alongside Rodrygo. Nico Williams was previously a target, but he has committed his future to Athletic Club by extending his contract until 2035.

Rodrygo’s versatility, capable of playing across the entire frontline, and proven track record at the highest level make him an attractive acquisition for the North London club, should they succeed in overcoming competition from other European powerhouses.

What’s driving Rodrygo’s potential move? The arrival of Kylian Mbappé at Real Madrid has significantly reduced Rodrygo’s playing time, prompting him to consider options where he’ll feature more prominently.
