The journalist takes a step up after was Veselina Petrakieva’s deputy

Venelin Petkov invites him to the BTV newsroom in 2017

Asen Ivanov is the new editor-in-chief of “BTV News”, after Veselina Petrakieva, who held the position temporarily, left of her own accord.

The casting coincided with changes in Nova TV, which immediately fueled conspiracy theories.

Two days ago, the owner “United Media” fired Stefana Zdravkova from the post of CEO and Dirk Gerkens headed the “Nova Broadcasting Group” again. At the same time, the head of news in this television – Iliya Dafov – also left.

BTV’s move is not so drastic, since until now Asen Ivanov was the deputy of Petrakieva, who took over the news last September. Then the private media assigned the chief executive officer of “BTV Media Group” Ralf Bartolait to head the “News, current affairs and sports” department as well, because Anton Hekimyan went into politics.

“Asen Ivanov is among the professionals with experience in the BTV newsroom and has a long experience in the editorial office,” explained Ralph Bartolait, who will continue to perform both functions. He is convinced that together with the new editor-in-chief, they will continue to produce quality news and journalism at the highest level.

Asen Ivanov’s journalistic career began with a newspaper

– became a reporter at “Monitor” and for him this was decisive, as he shared with his colleagues. Because he realized what kind of school the daily newspaper is only when he goes to television.

He has been a forensic reporter for 18 years and has the confidence to be among the best.

He has been in the editorial staff of BTV for more than 12 years. In 2007, he became “BTV News Reporter of the Year”.

Between 2013 and 2017, he worked at TV7, and then at BiT – televisions that no longer exist. In fact, the period in TV7 is particularly interesting because of the media itself, known as “Tsvetan Vasilev’s television”. When KTB went bankrupt, Ivanov remained at TV7 and with his colleagues publicly distanced himself from politician Delyan Peevski and Nikolay Barekov, who is the executive director. After all, then the journalists make this statement live on the air of BTV.

At that time, Asen Ivanov became the executive producer of TV7 news and worked with Valentina Vojkova, their editor-in-chief. Colleagues from their team still remember today that the two worked with “muscles and enthusiasm”, because it was hellishly difficult to motivate more than 100 people, whose salaries were stopped after the bankruptcy of KTB, and servers and equipment were seized from the media.

For Ivanov himself, this period was probably stressful for the family as well, since his wife is a sports journalist in the same media and both of them, like everyone else, remain without salaries. According to his colleagues at BTV, today Krasimira was no longer engaged in journalism.

Ivanov is the host of the last broadcast of TV7

On September 17, 2016 – Sofia’s Day, a new show of Luba Kulezic was supposed to start, and the two entered the studio. Just then, the Council for Electronic Media (CEM) issued an order to the cable operators to stop broadcasting TV7.

Asen Ivanov became the producer of Lyuba Kulezic and worked with her on her show, but on BiT, whose consultant is Neri Tervzieva, and whose owners are two Bulgarian emigrants from Chicago. At the same time, he also traveled to Ruse, because he participated in the creation of the local TVN television of Viktoria Marinova – the journalist who was brutally murdered in 2018.

The two were very close friends and created television with great enthusiasm almost from scratch – with news and shows.

So almost a year passes when Venelin Petkov, head of news, current affairs and sports at BTV, and Gena Traikova, editor-in-chief of news, invite Asen and since July 2017 he is back in the newsroom of BTV, and from 2021 he became deputy editor-in-chief and news content producer.

He graduated in economics and law. He has a master’s degree in national security from the Military Academy “G. S. Rakovski”. In 2013, he underwent journalism training at the CNN headquarters in Atlanta, USA.
