State Duma deputy, pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of Russia Roman Romanenko, together with his colleagues-cosmonauts, opened the exhibition “The Orbit of Life of Alexei Gubarev” in the Moscow Museum of Cosmonautics at VDNKh, dedicated to the stages of life and professional path of the pilot-cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Alexei Alexandrovich Gubarev. 2021 marked the 90th anniversary of his birth, and 2020 was the anniversary year for Gubarev’s first flight.

“I gladly accepted the invitation, because the event is significant for me. I have known Alexey Alexandrovich’s family since childhood, we were neighbors. He was for me one of the examples of dedication and perseverance in achieving the goal. It is difficult to overestimate his contribution to the development of manned cosmonautics: from his first flight, the long-term orbital station Salyut-4 began to be used, and during the second flight, the unique Interkosmos program was launched, – noted Roman Romanenko.

It should be noted that the daughter of the pilot-cosmonaut Olga Gubareva took part in the preparation of the exhibition, who donated the Hero’s personal belongings for the exhibition: the ceremonial tunic of the major general, things from the cosmonaut’s daily life, reflecting his hobbies – a tennis racket and a camera. In addition, at the exhibition you can see the “Penguin” training load suit, Alexei Gubarev’s flight jacket and headset, documents, on-board instructions and other exhibits.

Roman Romanenko and his fellow cosmonauts Alexander Laveykin, Valery Tokarev, Sergey Zalyotin cut the red ribbon at the opening ceremony.

Recall that in just two flights, Alexei Gubarev was in space for 37 days 11 hours 35 minutes 45 seconds. In 1981, he left the cosmonaut corps, but continued to serve in command positions at the Yu.A. Gagarin. In 1982 he defended his Ph.D. thesis, he is the author of 16 scientific works and “The attraction of weightlessness” and “Orbit of life”. Minor planet No. 2544 is named after Alexei Gubarev.

The exhibition “The Orbit of Alexei Gubarev’s Life” will run until December 2021.
