Gold-winning archer Roman Sana has retired from the national archery team. The archer informed the Archery Federation about his retirement. Roman informed the matter through a letter, confirmed by Bangladesh Archery Federation General Secretary Rajeevuddin Ahmed.

Rajibuddin confirmed to RisingBD that Roman’s retirement was due to personal reasons. He said, ‘The decision to retire has been written to the Roman Federation. We received that letter. The letter shows personal reasons.’

Roman Sana is considered the best archer in Bangladesh at present. He also has a bronze medal in the world competition of this sport. Roman won this medal in the 2019 World Archery Championship. He also qualified directly for the Olympics as the first athlete from Bangladesh.

In the 2021 Archery World Cup, Roman partnered Dia Siddique in the recurve mixed doubles final. However, after losing to the pair from the Netherlands, they have to be happy with the silver medal. Roman also led the country to a medal in the team event of recurve at the Hangzhou Asian Games last September.

In 2019, Roman won gold in the Asian Ranking Archery Championship. The archer won the individual singles medal after defeating Chinese opponent Xi Zhenqi 7-3 in Clark City, Philippines. Apart from this, he also won gold in the ‘recurve mixed team’ event of the Asia Cup World Ranking Archery Championship in Phuket, Thailand last year.
