Within five years, there could be international rules that require nations to launch and control satellites to avoid dangerous situations. This was stated during a visit to South Africa by the Executive Director of Roscosmos Alexander Bloshenko.

“It can be assumed that within five years international rules for space traffic will be developed by analogy with air traffic,” said Bloshenko (quoted by TASS).

A representative of the state corporation, pointing to the plans of space powers, said that by 2030 the number of satellites around the Earth would exceed 100,000. Bloshenko said that he did not support the idea that there would be “enough space for everyone” in space. According to him, attractive orbits are limited, and because of their “overcrowding”, there may be a risk of dangerous situations.

In December last year, the general director of Roskosmos, Yuri Borisov, spoke in an interview with Vedomosti about the state of the space industry and a new approach to the production of satellites.

“Today, Elon Musk releases six satellites a day, plans to create a constellation of as many as 42,000 satellites by 2030. China’s production capacity is over 500 satellites per year. Europe, India, all the leading countries are actively increasing their production capacities, but we overslept the industrial model. We have to catch up,” said Borisov.

The head of the state corporation noted that at the turn of 2025–2026. Russia should produce 200-250 satellites a year – instead of today’s 15, and by 2030 “to reach at least a satellite a day.”
