The Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) is exploring the possibility of using satellite technology to collect data in the field of agriculture. The department has published an application for research work on this topic, follows from the procurement information posted on the official portal zakupki.gov.ru.
Rosstat plans to verify the information obtained during the agricultural census with satellite images, according to the materials for the purchase. The description says that scientific research should include an analysis of the discrepancy between information on the total sown area, on the harvest and on the results of sowing for it, as well as on how much spring crops were sown and how much winter crops were saved for grain. Based on the results of the work, the agency expects to receive data from experts on the effectiveness of this approach, as well as proposals for the use of satellite monitoring technologies on an ongoing basis. The contract amount was 1.3 million rubles.
