Route 11 Collision: Bus and Truck Crash Leaves Three Dead, 17 Injured in Santa Fe Province

A devastating collision between a bus and a truck on Route 11 in Argentina’s Santa Fe province has resulted in three fatalities and left 17 passengers injured, four of them critically. The incident, which occurred after 10:30 PM local time, involved a bus operated by the Santa Lucía company, originating from the province of Chaco, and a Scania truck carrying insecticide aerosols.

The Scene of the Crash

Initial reports indicate the truck driver was exiting a tire shop adjacent to the highway when the accident occurred. Witnesses state the truck crossed the roadway directly into the path of the northbound bus, resulting in a forceful impact to the truck’s coupling mechanism. The area, known as Nelson 2, has become the focal point of the investigation.

Fatalities and Injuries

Tragically, both drivers – the bus drivers and the truck operator – were killed in the collision. A coordinator accompanying a shopping tour group traveling from Buenos Aires to Chaco also perished. Authorities confirmed a total of 17 passengers sustained injuries, with four listed in serious condition and receiving treatment at the José María Cullen hospital in Santa Fe city.

Survivor Testimony

A survivor, identified as a tour coordinator, recounted the harrowing moments leading up to and following the crash. “It was all very fast,” he stated, describing a sudden braking maneuver followed by the impact. “We feel a braking, I go against my partner and I see that in that impact it stops again and we are facing each other,” he explained. He immediately assisted others, noting his own injuries – pain in his head and legs – but prioritizing the well-being of fellow passengers.

Potential Contributing Factors

Preliminary investigations suggest driver distraction may have played a role in the tragedy. According to the survivor’s account, the bus drivers may have been dining at the time of the incident. Authorities are actively investigating all potential contributing factors, including road conditions and vehicle maintenance records.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
