Head of Lithuanian Rowing coach Mykolas Masiulionis noticed that the athletes’ results are not the best for today: “For this period of the season, the results are average, which is normal, considering the fact that the season has just started. And the weather conditions were not the easiest.”
Gabija Stankevičiūtė and Mykolas Montvila will compete in the European Junior Rowing Championship in Poland on June 1-2. In doubles – Deivilė Binkytė, Jolana Sinkevičiūtė and Ivar Liepis, Motiejus Valčiukas. Arnas Andriušaitis, Alberto Fontani in doubles. Domantas Janickas, Vilius Juška, Geraldas Gavrilovs, Julius Krasauskas will start in the doubles four.
Athletes are waiting for the final Olympic qualification regatta and the II stage of the World Cup in Switzerland, during which the crews representing Lithuania at the Paris Olympic Games will be determined.
On May 19-21, the brothers Domantas and Dovydas Stankūnas will compete in the final Olympic qualification regatta in a single double. Even though they faced not very favorable weather conditions of the selection regatta in Trakai, after the finish both felt calm: “What we had planned, we managed to fulfill everything. The goal was to get to the main Olympic selection. In the coming weeks, we will continue to prepare and try to improve, correct mistakes.”
Ieva Adomavičiūtė, Viktorija Senkutė, Dovydas Nemeravičius and Giedrius Bieliauskas will fight for an Olympic berth in the second round of the World Championship on May 24-26. Donata Karalienė and Dovilė Rimkutė will start with doubles.
The general secretary of the Lithuanian Rowing Federation, Saulius Ritter, is happy with the results achieved: “The weather was really changeable, but I am very happy that the athletes showed their capabilities. Really strong teams were formed.”
