We snorted when the members of the Seimas, with serious faces, considered how it would be necessary to control by applying the clause – taking dogs for a walk or allowing them to be tied up for two hours at the shopping center. In all other cases, it would be considered animal cruelty.

It is disappointing that the law has not been adopted and the ban will not come into force from 2027. And there is nothing to laugh at, because here are very serious matters, and more precisely, money.

After all, let’s remember how fur breeders were outraged when there were calls to ban their business and close farms.

But last year, the Seimas adopted a law prohibiting the business of fur animals in Lithuania from 2027. Are we hearing business complaints now? No. Because compensation will be paid to the owners of destroyed farms.

Or a call to ban keeping chickens in cages, looking to the examples of other countries. Let’s say that the Czech Republic will already apply such a ban from 2027.

In Lithuania, the proposal to ban the keeping of chickens in cages did not receive a great wave of indignation from the poultry farm owners.

After all, eggs from litter or free-range hens are more expensive. So you can earn more.

One of the largest bakeries in Lithuania has already felt that using eggs from free-range chickens for production puts more money in your pocket. Only its representatives did not hide that because of this, the cost price of bread and cake went up, so the production had to be more expensive.

And what can be squeezed out of Brisius, or rather the chain, by banning it? The possibilities are endless.

For example, amendments to the law could provide for compensation for owners who unchain dogs. After all, you will have to install aviaries for the four-legged ones, and this is an expense. And the stores selling wire nets would also lose money.

Such a law would also benefit the state. After all, not everyone would obey the ban on keeping dogs on a leash, and such people would have to be punished for animal cruelty. For example, in Poland, such behavior is punishable by a fine of up to 23,178 euros, in Germany – up to 25,000, in Latvia – up to 29,600, and in Austria – even up to 150,000. euros. So every Brisius can be very useful.
