Unstoppable. Anne-Cécile Ciofani scored an anthology try this Saturday in Cape Town as part of the 2nd stage of the Cape Sevens Series of rugby sevens. During the first match of the day against South Africa, the best player in the world of discipline in 2021 contributed to the victory (29-7), which was then confirmed by a new success against the United States (31-0). Two results which allowed the French to validate their ticket for the quarter-finals even before the last group match against Canada.
Against the South Africans, the French went to the promised land five times thanks to Carla Neisen, Chloé Jacquet, Chloé Pelle, Joanna Grisez and especially Anne-Cécile Ciofani. By scoring the Blue’s fourth try, the 29-year-old made an impression after a race of almost 100 m.
At the start of the action, the South Africans have the ball. A follow-up kick is attempted, but the capricious bounce of the ball lands within 22 m of the French in the arms of Anne-Cécile Ciofani. The latter was not voted best player in the world in 2021 for nothing. She first eliminates two opponents after as many hooks to put herself on the royal road. The Francilienne then crosses the center line and lets us admire her burst of speed. Out of breath, she still resists the return of a South African thanks to one last ruckus. She can then collapse in the goal at the end of a fantastic ride.
Silver medalists at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, the French women dream of doing as well as in Dubai during the first stage of the Sevens Series where they reached the semi-finals before winning the bronze medal.
On the boys’ side, the matter is more complicated. First winners of Fiji (17-14) on the gong, a major feat, the Blues were beaten by Argentina (7-21). They will play their qualification against Spain in the last group match this Saturday (5:34 p.m.).
