Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that his country was ready to negotiate peace with Ukraine, but the West intervened and prevented it. Lavrov attacked the West for sending weapons to Ukraine while fighting continues

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, claimed yesterday (Monday) that the West prevented peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in the first months of the war. Lavrov claimed that Russia did not “refuse to negotiate” with Ukraine and was ready to negotiate, but the US and other Western countries advised Kiev not to negotiate.

Lavrov’s words during a visit to South Africa were similar to those made by Russian President Vladimir Putin last year, according to which Russia was ready for peace talks but Ukraine’s western allies prevented the talks.

The US and other Western countries responded by saying that Russia is not serious about negotiations to end the war. Lavrov also warned that the war between Russia and the West is no longer a “maybe” but is “almost real”, he attacked Ukraine’s allies for sending weapons.

“When we talk about what’s happening in Ukraine – it’s a war, not a hybrid, almost a real war, which the West has been plotting for a long time against Russia,” Lavrov said yesterday. “The goal is to destroy everything Russian, from language to culture that has been in Ukraine for hundreds of years and forbid people to speak their mother tongue,” Lavrov claimed, continuing the same line used by Vladimir Putin since the beginning of the war.
