Russia has created a Begalet-Mirage UAV capable of flying for half a day at an altitude of 8000 meters
The Begalet-Mirage UAV with vertical takeoff and landing, created by Russian engineers, is capable of flying for up to 12 hours at an altitude of up to 8,000 meters, the developer’s press service said on Saturday, RIA Novosti reports.
“Russian engineers have created an unmanned aerial vehicle that has no analogues on the market,” said the company participating in the NTI Aeronet market – Aerospace Development BEGAK.
As clarified to the agency, a working demonstrator of the apparatus with a take-off weight of 75 kilograms has been created. Of these, 20 kg can be occupied by a payload. The flight altitude is 6-8 thousand meters.
“Such a development is in demand on the market today for various tasks,” the press service noted. “First of all, as a communication signal repeater.”
Such a repeater will be useful during emergencies: floods, forest fires, gas pipeline fires, as well as for “other national economic tasks,” said Alexander Begak, general designer of the drone, company CEO.
According to him, the duration of the flight of a UAV with electric motors is about 2 hours or 350 kilometers.
In the hybrid version, the device is equipped with an electric motor and an internal combustion engine running on gasoline. In this assembly, the flight duration will be up to 12 hours.
He noted that the flight height of classic drones of this size is no more than 4 thousand meters, and their flight speed is lower.
In addition, the device developed by NTI, according to the head, has a non-classical aerodynamic configuration, which allows it to “take off from any site unprepared for these purposes.” As Begak believes, takeoff is possible “even from the deck of a ship.”
“However, it is not a tiltrotor,” the CEO said, without deliberately disclosing other characteristics.
According to him, several drone flights have already been made, and other tests will begin in the near future.
