Russia has cut off natural gas supplies to Europe. Russia has halted natural gas supplies through the Nord Stream One pipeline, the largest natural gas pipeline to Europe. Russia’s position is that it can resume gas supply only if the sanctions are lifted. Natural gas prices have increased by 30 percent since Russia cut off gas supplies.
Problems in gas pumping have arisen due to sanctions imposed by countries including Germany and UK against our country and companies. This blockade is hampering the proper servicing of Nord Stream 1. Nothing else exists but this; Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Russia supplies 40% of Europe’s natural gas. Most of this is transported through pipelines. In 2021, Russia exported around 155 billion cubic meters of fuel to Europe – a third of which was transported via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. This is what Russia has closed now.
After the shutdown of Nord Stream 1, only two networks remain that transport natural gas to Europe. One is the pipeline through Ukraine. Another pipeline, the TurkStream pipeline from Russia to Turkey, is operating normally, although supplies are currently slow due to the war.
