Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrives in India on a two-day (March 31, April 1) visit to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid a 36-day war in Ukraine. The United States has repeatedly indirectly criticized India for not condemning Russia in the Russia-Ukraine divorce and for boycotting the anti-Russian vote in the UN General Assembly. In particular, US President Joe Biden has openly said of India that “India is a little hesitant to take a decision against Russia.” The United States and Australia have been critical of India’s arrival.
Speaking to reporters in Washington yesterday, US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said, “It is time to stand on the right side of history. Together with the United States and other countries, we must stand with the people of Ukraine for freedom, democracy and sovereignty. He further added that President Putin’s war should not be funded or funded, adding that he was “deeply disappointed” by the Russian minister’s visit to India.
Following this, Australian Trade Minister Dan Tehan said, “It is important that democracies work together to maintain the rules-based approach we had after World War II.”
