Russia Repels Ukrainian Incursion in Border Region
Russia has pushed back against Ukraine‘s largest assault into Russian territory since the war began, sending troops to repel the incursion. The conflict escalated after several similar operations claimed in recent months by a group of pro-Ukrainian fighters.
The interim governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, reported five civilians killed during the day in Ukrainian attacks. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the attack, stating that Ukrainian forces attempted to penetrate the Kursk region.
“The artillery fire, the attacks of the military aviation and attack drones cause damage to the enemy,” the ministry said.
Earlier, the ministry claimed Ukrainian forces were being repelled from Russian territory, but this statement was later removed. A video posted online appears to show a Ukrainian tank being hit by a shell during the conflict.
Russia had previously announced the deployment of reserve forces to counter the incursion by Ukrainian forces.
