by time news

On Friday, it became known that on May 13, the former governor of the Lipetsk region, and now the region’s representative in the Federation Council, Oleg Korolev, driving his Lexus, got into an accident. A video recording of the United Russia senator’s car driving along the roads of Lipetsk, crossing the dividing strip and crashing into road signs, got into the media, which accused him of drunk driving. Mr. Korolev explained to Kommersant that he felt bad because of atrial fibrillation, and he does not drink because of the illness. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is checking the accident with the participation of the senator, and United Russia suspended his membership in the party until the end of the proceedings.

This morning, videos appeared on the network, which show how the car of the senator from the Lipetsk region, 69-year-old Oleg Korolev with the license plate M 001 MM 48, violates the traffic rules. One of them captured the moment when on one of the streets Lexus LX 570 crashed into a road sign, and then left the scene.

As it turned out later, the former governor himself, who has been representing the region in the Federation Council since the end of 2018, was driving the car. The Baza edition, which posted a fragment of the video, which shows how Oleg Korolyov communicates with the traffic police, reported that he was drunk.

Judging by the video, the senator was looking for documents for a long time, sitting in a car with flat tires and a damaged body.

Life.ru, citing sources, wrote about the signs of alcohol intoxication with the former governor: he allegedly smelled strongly of alcohol, he could not stand on his feet well and refused a medical examination.

Oleg Korolev assured Kommersant that he was sober. According to the senator, he became ill due to atrial fibrillation. “My eyes darkened, I tried to drink the medicine – it doesn’t help. I slept a little bit, I decided to contact the traffic cops, they took me home. I did not commit any accidents. Thank God he is alive and well! ” – said Oleg Korolev.

He explained the damage to the car as an attempt to prevent a collision. “When it got dark in my eyes to drive to the side of the road and not interfere with anyone, I bumped into something and punched the wheels. I was already poorly oriented, I should have avoided making an accident, ”explained Oleg Korolev.

According to him, the traffic police did not draw up an administrative protocol after the incident.

At the moment, the senator is at home and he is better.

The Interior Ministry told Kommersant that on May 13, at 19:30, the duty station of the Lipetsk department received a message that a Lexus driver allegedly grossly violates traffic rules on Gagarin Street, and later information about an accident with his participation appeared on the network. Judging by the video circulated in the media, the senator’s car collided with another car while overtaking, and then fled the scene.

After reporting traffic violations, the Lexus driver was detained.

The representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in a conversation with Kommersant, emphasized that the traffic police stopped the senator’s car, which contradicts his version.

Now the department is checking the incident.

After the resonance, the United Russia party announced that Oleg Korolev’s membership was suspended at his request until all the circumstances were clarified. “The proceedings should be as impartial and transparent as possible so that no one has any questions about what really happened. If the version of Oleg Petrovich is confirmed and he proves his innocence, United Russia will be ready to restore his membership in the party, ”said Secretary of the General Council of the party Andrei Turchak.

Oleg Korolev, who has headed the Lipetsk region since 1998, is not the first time he is associated with a high-profile road accident. In November 2017, his son Roman received a three-year suspended sentence for a traffic violation that negligently resulted in the death of a person (part 3 of Art.264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The incident occurred on September 26, 2015 on Vokzalnaya street in the village of Cheremisinovo, Kursk region. Former deputy local regional prosecutor Roman Korolyov drove a Volkswagen Touareg at a speed of over 100 km / h with a speed limit of 40 km / h. Lost control, he pulled over to the side of the road and hit a 57-year-old woman who died on the spot. The culprit of the accident paid the family of the deceased 1 million rubles.
