Russia seeks India’s support at UN Security Council Russian Deputy Chief of Mission Roman Babushkin said he hoped India would support Russia in the vote on the draft resolution presented to the UN Security Council against Russia’s military action, and that India had a clear understanding of Russia’s move into the current situation. He also reminded that there is a special and strategic partnership between the two countries.
The United States and Albania have strongly condemned Russia’s aggression, occupation and encroachment on its sovereignty, and called for Russia’s unconditional withdrawal from Ukraine. The resolution was put to a vote on Friday. The vote on the draft resolution came two days after an emergency meeting on the situation in Ukraine.
A senior U.S. official said the United States was pushing the resolution in the hope that Russia would use its veto and that doing so would underline their isolation. Officials said the UNSC resolution was only the first step and a prelude to action expected in the coming days at the UN General Assembly.
