Official Pakistani statistics reported that Russia has become the main supplier of grains to Pakistan.
Last March, Pakistan purchased a record amount of Russian wheat, about half a million tons, and according to available data, Russian grain now covers 70% of the Pakistani market’s consumption.
In 2023, Russia increased its wheat export to Pakistan by 5.5 times – up to 1.6 million tons worth $568.3 million.
In the first quarter of this year, the volume of deliveries has already reached nearly two-thirds of last year and reached 1 million tons worth $296 million. Meanwhile, sales in March reached a record level of 478 thousand tons worth $139 million, and the share of… Russian exports in Pakistani imports are 70.5%. In 2022, the percentage was 24.6%.
Pakistan paid the value of Russian grain imports in the first quarter, equally in UAE dirhams and dollars. Meanwhile, the dirham was first used to pay for this product in November last year.
