“Russia will not win its war in Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin must not dictate the terms of any peace agreement,” German Chancellor Olaf Schultz said today (Thursday).
Having failed to occupy the Ukrainian capital Kyiv or Kharkiv in its three-month war, Russian forces are trying to gain full control of the Donbas region and have also advanced in the south despite Ukrainian resistance and severe Western sanctions on Moscow.
“Putin must not win his war, and I am convinced he will not win,” Schultz said in a speech at the World Economic Forum at the Swiss resort of Davos. “Occupation of the whole of Ukraine seems farther now than at the beginning of the war.”
