Russian police have added three ministers, including the Prime Minister of Estonia, to the list of wanted criminals.

This is just the beginning

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has mentioned this information on its website. Estonia’s prime minister, Kaja Kallas, and interior secretary, as well as Lithuania’s culture minister, are all three wanted by Russia.

In relation to this matter, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas tried to desecrate the historical monument.

Apart from this, they also accused the Estonian government of destroying the monuments of Soviet soldiers. At this stage, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “This is just the beginning.”

He also mentioned that the crimes of destroying the monuments of those who freed the world from Nazism and Fascism should be punished.

But no comment has been released from the Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. Moreover, the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania has not confirmed the matter.

Warning on the Russian side

The Baltic states, which were formerly part of the Soviet Union, announced plans to demolish Soviet-era monuments. Furthermore, Prime Minister Kallas had said in 2022 that Estonian authorities would remove 200 to 400 such monuments.

A warning was given by the Russian side that a criminal investigation would be carried out after this. Estonian or Lithuanian politicians could only face arrest if they actually crossed the Russian border.

Otherwise it is said that declaring wanted criminals will have no real consequences.
