NATO:
Russia launched a military offensive against Ukraine on February 24 in protest of joining NATO. Missile strikes continue in the capital, Kiev, Kharkiv, Mariupol, Kherson, Sumi, and Liv. Large buildings, apartments, hospitals, schools and educational institutions have been damaged and destroyed by the war.
Ukraine-Russia war:
Various military bases in the country have been destroyed. The people of that country are taking refuge in neighboring countries to protect themselves from the onslaught of war. So far 40 lakh people have taken refuge in countries including Poland, Romania and Hungary. So far 136 children have been killed in the 6-week-long war.
Negotiation failure:
Russian forces continue to try to capture the capital, Kiev. The war has also caused great casualties on both Ukraine and Russia. Russia’s and Ukraine’s two – stage talks on a ceasefire have failed, and Turkey’s recent third – stage talks in Istanbul have made no progress.
Heavy attack on Mariupol:
In the past few days, there have been reports of heavy artillery fire by Russian forces in the port city of Mariupol. The Ukrainian government says 5,000 people, including children, have been killed in the attack.
Ceasefire Notice:
Russia, meanwhile, has announced a ceasefire in Mariupol today, prompting civilians to leave. Russia’s Defense Ministry has said that people will be evacuated from the city on a humanitarian route through the Russian – controlled port of Bertiansk to Iporigia.
