Arrangements to manage congestion at Sabarimala

Devaswom Minister K. Radhakrishnan is set to reach Sannidhanam today to assess the situation and meet with various stakeholders including the Sabarimala Tantri. A high-level meeting has been called at Sannidhanath, which will be attended by MLAs, Devaswom Board President, members, Special Secretary, and other high officials to evaluate the security arrangements at Sabarimala.

The Minister had previously assessed the preparations in Nilakkal, Erumeli, and Pampa, and had responded to allegations about the Sabarimala issue by stating that the rush of devotees is natural. He also urged devotees to control themselves. Meanwhile, the High Court is set to consider the case regarding the Sabarimala crowd again, with the ADGP in charge of security providing an explanation about the current situation.

The court has suggested that more parking space should be allocated at Nilakkal and that spot booking should be fixed at 10,000 on the days when the virtual Q booking reaches 80,000. The court has also directed that the number of people in the Q complex and pilgrim sheds should not exceed the permissible limit and that cleanliness should be maintained in these areas.

In response to the complaints about pilgrims not being provided with drinking water and the lack of sufficient KSRTC services in Pampa and Nilakkal, K. Sudarshan IPS is set to take charge as Sannidhanam Special Officer, with new special officers appointed at Pampa and Nilakkal as well. These appointments have been made considering the heavy traffic and the experiences of the officers.

In related news, the government has informed the High Court that the crowd at Sabarimala is currently under control, with new systems put in place to manage pilgrims. The court is considering appointing a legal team to study the complaints of pilgrims about the crowding at Sabarimala, and the government has moved to make a video presentation of the prepared systems in the court.

The High Court is also considering sending a legal team to visit and inspect the Q complex and rest areas, assess the facilities available, and the difficulties faced by the devotees. The court has taken note of the long waiting times for darshan, blocked traffic along the route, and the lack of food and water for many pilgrims.

Overall, the government and the High Court are taking steps to address the congestion and challenges faced by pilgrims at Sabarimala during the ongoing pilgrimage season.
