Sabarimala Sridharmashasta temple opens for Makaravilak pilgrimage

The Sabarimala Sridharmashasta temple was opened at 5 pm on December 30th for the Makaravilak Pilgrimage, marking the start of the Makaravilak Mahotsava pilgrimage. The temple was inaugurated by Melshanti PN Mahesh Nambootiri under the chief karikam of Tantri Kantar Mahesh Mohan.

Following the opening of the main temple, Malikappuram Melashanti PG Murali enshrined Ganapati and Nagaraja and opened the Malikappuram shrine after receiving Vibhuti and the key from the idol of Sabarishan. Pilgrims were allowed to step on the 18th step and perform darshan after the pouring of fire into the pit by Melshanthi PN Mahesh Namboothiri. Sabarimala Executive Officer V Krishnakumar and Administrative Officer OG Biju also visited the temple for darshan on the opening day.

The temple had been closed on December 27 after Mandal Puja, and devotees were eagerly waiting for its reopening. Pilgrims had started arriving at Sannidhanam from the pampa and through the grasslands since morning. Medicated drinking water was made available to the Ayyappa devotees who were waiting in the large walkway.

The Makaravilak pilgrimage, which started on December 30th, will continue until January 20th, with the Makaravilak being celebrated on January 15th. The pilgrimage attracts lakhs of people, and the devotees will have the chance to visit the temple and participate in the pilgrimage activities until January 20th, after which the temple will be closed.

The reopening of the Sabarimala Sridharmashasta temple for the Makaravilak pilgrimage has drawn devotees from all over the country, and the festivities are expected to continue in the coming days.
