(Sainte-Anne-De-Sorel) A man lost his life in an excruciating nautical accident on Saturday evening in Sainte-Anne-de-Sorel, in Montérégie.
The emergency services were notified at around 5:30 p.m. that a man traveling in a pontoon boat had fallen into the St. Lawrence River and that he had been seriously injured.
“The man on the boat would have fallen, possibly following a wave. He would have ended up under the boat and he would have been seriously injured by the propeller of the engine, ”explained Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
When help arrived, other boaters had already started resuscitation maneuvers on the man in his fifties, but his death was unfortunately found in hospital.
“Obviously, an investigation is underway surrounding this fall,” said the spokesperson for the SQ.
