Salvador Bloopa: Sporting CP’s Rising Star Breaks Decades-Old Record with debut Double

Sporting CP has unveiled a thrilling new talent in 18-year-old Salvador Bloopa, who marked his debut with a stunning two-goal performance, shattering an 88-year-old club record and igniting excitement among fans. The young forward’s versatility and composure were on full display as he became the 85th player to graduate from Sporting’s prestigious Academia de Alcochete to the first team.

Bloopa’s impact was immediate. His debut on Tuesday in Alvalade saw him deployed as a starter by Rui Borges in the League Cup quarter-final. The teenager responded by scoring twice – once with his left foot and once with his right – showcasing his adaptability and attacking prowess. This feat surpassed a record previously held by Peyroteo, a legendary figure for Sporting, who also scored a brace on his debut in 1937, albeit at the age of 19.

The young player’s potential was evident long before his recent breakthrough. According to his first coach, Jorge Martins, Bloopa always possessed a natural talent and unwavering dedication. “I was six years old when I started working with Salvador, I always played at a higher level,” martins recalled. “I remember him showing up with his boots all broken and all he wanted to do was run and kick balls.”

Martins also described a close bond formed with Bloopa, notably after the loss of his father. “We had lunch together on the weekends, he was a kid with more difficulties and he always hung out with me and we have created a bond until now. They often say I’m his father in football and in life, it’s about helping with advice and whenever I needed something I tried to help, as much as I could.”

Bloopa’s commitment extended beyond the pitch. A testament to his determination, Martins shared a story of Bloopa playing through injury in a tournament in Braga. Despite suffering an arm injury, he removed his cast and continued to play, ultimately being named the tournament’s best young player. “only here can you see his mentality, his work, his desire to do things and play football, he overcame the pain, he wanted to play,” Martins explained.

Sporting CP recognized Bloopa’s potential early on, though he initially remained loyal to Fontaínhas and his mentor, Martins. After two years,he officially signed with Sporting, returning briefly to Fontaínhas before fully committing to the Academy.

Bloopa’s versatility is a key asset, capable of playing on both flanks and even in attack, thanks to his impressive physical build (1.88m) and eye for goal. This was highlighted earlier this season while playing for Sporting’s B team and in international competitions with the Portuguese youth national teams. In June, he scored the equalizing goal in the final of the UEFA Friendship International Cup against the United States, helping Portugal win in a penalty shootout. He continued his scoring form in September, finding the net in two of three games at the Stevan Vilotic Tournament.

Looking ahead, Rui borges emphasized the importance of maintaining a grounded approach. “He won nothing. Just a game, an opportunity, which everyone took advantage of very well,” Borges stated after the match. “It’s about continuing their work, seriously on a daily basis, in the B team.”

Martins believes Bloopa’s style of play is reminiscent of nuno Mendes, another Sporting academy graduate. “At these ages it’s elaborate… But he has Nuno Mendes’ style. They are similar profiles, with a long stride.” He added, “He’s a very hard worker, we’ve managed to get him to be very grounded, he listens a lot to those close to him.”

Salvador Bloopa’s story is just beginning, but his remarkable debut has already cemented his place as a rising star in Portuguese football, and a player with the potential to achieve great things.
