San Salvador. The closure of some voting centers in the United States and Canada, leaving hundreds of compatriots unable to vote, was not generated by negligence of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal or the Spanish company INDRA.

This was revealed by the TSE magistrates, who explained that the closure was due to the end of the lease contract for the premises to establish the voting centers, scheduled for 5:00 pm on February 4.

The explanation was given by the TSE, after learning that President Nayib Bukele warned that closing a voting center without properly attending to the voters who came on time to cast the vote is a crime in El Salvador and that those responsible for such a decision would face a legal process.

Both the president of the TSE, Dora Esmeralda Martínez, and Judge Guillermo Wellman, clarified that the pertinent measures would be taken to allow the affected compatriots to vote, maximum, within 15 days from February 4. Wellman explained that in some centers there were queues of compatriots of up to 2 km who were not able to vote for the owners’ decision to end the contract.
