Rajasthan Royals got the bitter taste of first defeat in IPL after four matches. Their triumph was stopped by Gujarat Titans.
Rashid Khan surprised Rajasthan by scoring 15 runs in the last over on Wednesday night. Sanju Samson lost the match in his final storm. Samson got more bad news after losing the match. He was fined by the match officials.
Due to slow over rate, he will have to pay a penalty of 12 lakh rupees. The IPL authorities said in a statement, ‘Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been penalized for slow over rate in Rajasthan Royals’ match against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur. He has been fined Rs 12 lakh.’
Gujarat won the match by three wickets. The toss is already delayed due to rain. Due to the slow over rate on him it was almost midnight before the game was over. This slow over rate is also responsible for Rajasthan’s match loss. With 5 minutes behind schedule, Rajasthan managed to keep only four fielders to the boundary in the 20th over. Using the opportunity, Rashid Khan collected three boundaries. Victory comes easily.
However, this is not the first penalty in this year’s IPL. Shubman Gill has calculated a fine of 12 lakh rupees. Gill was penalized because of the slow over rate. Besides, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined Rs 24 lakh twice for violating the code of conduct. Besides, the remaining Delhi players were fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee.
