Samsung’s Foldable Future Unveiled
Battery and water-resistance details emerge ahead of the July 9 launch.
- Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are launching on Wednesday, July 9.
- Both new Flip models will have an IP48 rating for water resistance.
- Z Fold 7 estimated battery life is 40 hours and 28 minutes.
Samsung’s next generation of foldable phones is almost here. The **Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7** are set to be unveiled this coming Wednesday, July 9, and more information is leaking out.
Dust and water resistance
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 might stick to an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance, just like the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 and a cheaper Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE are also rumored to have the same IP48 rating.
This IP48 rating means that the phones will have some level of waterproofing. It will not have full protection against small dust and dirt particles.
Battery life expectations
Battery capacities and maximum time between charges are rumored to be:
- 4,272mAh and 40 hours and 28 minutes for the Z Fold 7.
- 4,174 mAh and 42 hours and 4 minutes for the Z Flip 7.
- 3,887 mAh and 37 hours for the Z Flip 7 FE.
Phone manufacturers including Samsung use a more idealized battery capacity rating in their advertising, so there’ll be some discrepancy between the figures above and what shows up on the actual specs list.
It looks likely that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will get the same battery capacity as its predecessor, while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is set for a slight battery boost compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
When can you buy them?
According to rumors, preorders will open on the event day, July 9, while shipping and in-store availability is set for July 25.
Those dates include the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 models, which are also expected to make an appearance this coming Wednesday.
