Samsung is poised to further solidify its dominance in the foldable smartphone market with plans for significantly thinner devices and the introduction of a revolutionary tri-folding screen model in 2026. The company, already leading the sector following the 2025 launch of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, aims to make foldable technology more accessible to a wider consumer base.
According to a recent report from The Bell Korea, Samsung is aggressively pursuing slimmer designs for its next generation of foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. This push is driven by a desire to overcome existing barriers to adoption and establish foldable phones as mainstream devices.
Galaxy Z Flip8: A Focus on Portability
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is expected to be Samsung’s thinnest clamshell-style foldable smartphone to date. The device is projected to measure just 9.5 mm in thickness when folded – a remarkable 30% reduction compared to the 13.7 mm profile of the current Galaxy Z Flip7. This reduction in size is intended to enhance portability and address a key consumer concern regarding the bulkiness of foldable phones.
While folded, the thinner design will make the device easier to carry.however, when unfolded, the Z Flip8 will maintain the same 6.9 mm thickness as its predecessor. A major hardware upgrade is anticipated for the Z Flip8, though details regarding a potential budget-friendly “FE” version remain unconfirmed.
Galaxy Z Fold8: Incremental Improvements and S Pen Integration
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is anticipated to largely retain the design and specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold7. However, Samsung is reportedly exploring enhancements to the display, possibly incorporating a brighter AMOLED screen panel. Improvements to S Pen compatibility are also in development, aiming for a more seamless and efficient user experience.
Enterprising Sales Targets for 2026
Samsung has set an ambitious sales goal of 6.7 million units for the combined Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 in 2026. This represents a 10% increase over foldable smartphone sales figures from 2024,signaling the company’s confidence in the growing market.
Introducing the Galaxy Z TriFold: A New Frontier in Mobile Design
Beyond the Z Fold8 and Z Flip8, Samsung is preparing to unveil its first tri-folding screen smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, in 2026. This groundbreaking device promises to redefine mobile form factors and push the boundaries of display technology.
The Z TriFold is expected to boast the following specifications:
- Processor: Qualcomm snapdragon 8 Elite (4.32 GHz) or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (4.61 GHz)
- Display: 10-inch AMOLED screen panel with a brightness of 1,600 Nits
- Camera: 200-megapixel main camera
- Battery: 5,437 mAh capacity (slightly less than previously reported estimates of 5,600 mAh)
- Folded Thickness: 3.9 mm
- Unfolded Thickness: 4.2 mm
Initial production of the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to be limited, with approximately 20,000 to 30,000 units initially available in South Korea and select Asian markets. This phased rollout will allow samsung to gauge consumer response and refine the device before a wider global launch.
If these reports prove accurate, Samsung is signaling a clear commitment to not only innovate in the foldable space but also to make this technology accessible to a broader audience. The company’s strategy appears focused on delivering a cutting-edge user experience that will drive higher sales and solidify its position as the leader in the evolving world of foldable smartphones.
