Samsung Launches Galaxy Card With 5% Cash Back to Rival Apple Card Ecosystem

Rewards Structure and Financial Incentives

Samsung Electronics launched its first U.S. co-branded credit card on July 20, 2026, partnering with Barclays to offer up to 5% cash rewards. The Visa-based card is designed for deep integration with the Samsung Wallet app, positioning the company to compete directly with Apple’s financial services ecosystem.

Rewards Structure and Financial Incentives

The Samsung Galaxy Card features a tiered rewards program aimed at frequent users of the company’s hardware and digital services. Cardholders earn 5% cash rewards on purchases made directly through Samsung in the U.S., both online and in-store. Purchases made via Samsung Wallet earn 3% cash rewards, while eligible streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify yield 2%. All other transactions earn 1%.

Beyond standard cash-back rates, new users can earn a $200 bonus after spending $2,000 on purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. The card carries no annual fee and includes a 20% discount on Samsung VIP Advantage memberships. This reward structure is designed to build brand loyalty, a strategy noted as common in the industry to keep consumers within a specific ecosystem.

Integration With Samsung Wallet

Samsung has built the Galaxy Card to function as a wallet-first product, meaning it lacks a standalone banking application. Instead, account management, spending tracking, and reward redemption occur entirely within Samsung Wallet. Once approved, the card is provisioned instantly to the user’s device, allowing for immediate use.

The move represents a strategic effort to capture the growing number of consumers who prefer managing finances via mobile devices rather than physical wallets. Consumers expect payments to be embedded into the digital experiences they use every day, said Kirk Stuart, SVP and Head of North America Enablers, Merchants and Fintechs at Visa.

Strategic Partnership Between Samsung and Barclays

The card is issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank, which has been actively expanding its footprint in the American credit market. The collaboration is viewed as a long-term initiative to deepen the financial services available to Samsung’s user base. Sih Lee, executive vice president and head of North America Fintech Business at Samsung Electronics, noted that the company intends to explore further product collaborations.

“The relationship that we’re building with Barclays is a strategic and long-term relationship. So while we don’t have everything all lined up today, we do have intention to collaborate and explore all avenues of different products and different capabilities that we can actually make available as it makes sense to our customers.”

For Barclays, the partnership serves as a continuation of its strategy to align with recognized consumer brands. Denny Nealon, CEO of Barclays US Consumer Bank, stated that the bank is focused on creating seamless, rewarding digital banking capabilities that meet customers where they already spend time.

Market Position and Future Rollout

The launch places Samsung in direct competition with Apple’s financial offerings. While Apple Card has seen success, analysts suggest that the credit card market remains a commodity space where differentiation relies on how effectively a card integrates into a user’s daily habits. As Sara Rathner, a credit card expert at NerdWallet, observed, the 3% rewards rate for Samsung Wallet usage could prove to be a significant incentive for commuters and frequent mobile-payment users.

General public applications for the card open on July 22, 2026, coinciding with the company’s scheduled Galaxy Unpacked event. At that time, consumers will be able to apply online or at Samsung retail stores in the U.S. The physical card, which Samsung describes as black metal, will be shipped to users following approval, though the virtual version remains the primary interface for account activity.
