Samsung Mocks iPhone Duo Screen Cracks in Global Ad Campaign

Following display defects on Apple’s newly launched iPhone Duo, Samsung has deployed a satirical multi-country advertising campaign targeting the rival foldable. The digital spots highlight early hinge and screen cracking issues while promoting Samsung’s established Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup.

Samsung Unleashes Global Ad Campaign Mocking iPhone Duo Screen Cracks

Samsung launched a coordinated digital advertising blitz across at least four countries to mock Apple over display failures on its newly released foldable smartphone following the October 23 debut. Early users of the device reported that inner displays were dying or cracking in the exact center, pointing to a potential flaw in Apple’s hinge design.

Samsung’s regional accounts seized on the hardware stumbles with pointed internet humor. Samsung Canada posted an Instagram ad featuring three images with the text Folding is nothing new to us and We know a thing or eight before telling buyers to switch to the Galaxy Z Fold 8. A Samsung spokesperson stated that the promotion serves as a playful new campaign designed to tap into discussions surrounding the growing category rivalry and the importance of user experience. Samsung has built and refined its folding hinges, displays, and reliability progressively since introducing its original Galaxy Fold back in September 2019, positioning the eighth-generation model three months ahead of when the rival Apple device debuted.

Apple stated that the inner-display defect affects only a small number of units and noted that AppleCare+ may not be required to replace an affected device. Independent tear-downs by iFixit indicated that the hinge can catch the inner display from behind as the phone folds. Durability testing conducted by testers like JerryRigEverything similarly demonstrated that dust and debris could interfere with the hinge and prevent the phone from closing properly.

International Trolling Campaign Spans Canada, Malaysia, Australia, and Saudi Arabia

The competitive jabs extended far beyond North America. Samsung Malaysia published a post playing on consumer anxiety regarding durability debates, while Samsung Australia posted about how life sounds when your screen doesn’t break when opening your phone. Samsung Malaysia poked fun at the widespread durability discussion by noting how busy the team had been simply folding phones and proceeding with daily tasks.

European Sales Surge and Search Interest Following Apple’s Foldable Debut

While the rivalry has turned contentious online, market data indicates that Apple’s entry into the foldable space is driving widespread consumer curiosity toward the entire category. Samsung reported that combined European sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra rose 45 percent in the nine weeks following their August 7 launch, compared with the predecessor Galaxy Z Fold 7 over the same period a year earlier. In South Korea, local sales similarly climbed by 10 percent during the specific week the iPhone Duo was officially announced.

Google search interest for foldable devices across major European markets surged more than 260 percent in September compared to August, with a 460 percent spike recorded during the week of September 6 to 12, coinciding with Apple’s formal unveiling of the iPhone Duo. Analysts at Counterpoint Research have noted that the arrival of Apple’s device is poised to lift the entire foldable market, projecting overall shipment growth of 24 percent in 2026 and 37 percent in 2027.

Pricing and Hardware Comparisons Between the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8

Apple launched the iPhone Duo starting at $1,999 for the 256GB storage configuration in the United States, with online orders experiencing backorders stretching into January. Samsung’s baseline Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at $1,899.99 for the 256GB model on Amazon, undercutting Apple’s introductory price by roughly $100, while the flagship Ultra variant starts at $2,099 at launch.

Physical dimensions also remain a focal point of Samsung’s marketing strategy. According to specifications provided by Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 measures 9.7 mm thick when folded and weighs 201 grams, compared to the iPhone Duo at 11.3 mm thick and 254 grams. However, Apple holds an advantage in durability certifications, carrying an IP68 dust and water-resistance rating, whereas the Z Fold 8 holds an IP48 certification. Statcounter figures place Apple’s U.S. market share at 53.5 percent while Samsung stands at 26.15 percent, though Samsung successfully closed the gap slightly between August and September.
