After her international cinema successes, actress Sandra Hülser is returning to cinemas with a German film. The 45-year-old is part of “Zwei zu eins”, a comedy by Natja Brunckhorst, as the responsible PR agency announced on Friday. Max Riemelt, Ronald Zehrfeld, Ursula Werner and Peter Kurth also play. The film hits theaters on July 25th.

“Two to One” takes place in Halberstadt in Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 and refers to a historical event: After the currency changeover, millions of worthless GDR banknotes were stored in Halberstadt in a tunnel that was no longer used. The treasure was walled up and buried. Thieves then gained illegal access to the tunnel and stole banknotes.

That’s what the film is about. The friends Maren (Hüller), Robert (Riemelt) and Volker (Zehrfeld) find the stored GDR millions by chance – and then smuggle out backpacks full of money. According to the announcement, together with those around them, they are developing a sophisticated system to exchange the now worthless money for goods and “to outwit the rushing Westerners and their capitalism.” A first trailer was released on Friday.
