TRENTO. To open on the second day of Trento Film Festival – e first day of screenings – was the debut of the morning column Acclimating to the light: starting from 7am, in the Church of Santa Maria del Suffragio, this small daily secular breviary took place, made up of sounds, words and silences and promoted by the diocesan project Chieseacolori.

Morning appointments.

At 8.30 meeting at the Buonconsiglio Castle for The art of breathing: managing the mind by controlling the breathing, an activity promoted by the Parco del Respiro di Fai della Paganella, which involves the collective putting into practice of pranayama techniques, led by the instructor Lorenza Sonn.

Starting from 10 am, Alessandro Garofalo will present Mountain in motion, in the spaces of Palazzo Roccabruna and in collaboration with Trento European Capital of Volunteering. An authentic innovation laboratory, in which emerging creativity techniques will be used to allow all participants to dialogue and propose ideas regarding four macro-themes: happy people, administrative simplification, activism and regeneration.

At 10.30 the MontagnaLibri literary salon will host the presentation of La vita nelle occhi by Jacopo Merizzi (Edizioni CAI). The author – mountain guide, passionate archaeologist and staunch defender of Val di Mello – will narrate his adventures, in dialogue with Fausta Slanzi. 1 At the same time, in the spaces of Radio Dolomiti in Piazza Duomo, Luca Scoz and Elisabetta Flor of MUSE will talk about the Shamans between past and present, starting from the thematic exhibition hosted at Palazzo delle Albere and open to visitors throughout the Festival period.

At 11am, in the MUSE conference room, the presentation of the book Anthropocine, the green screen (Altreconomia) will take place. The author, Marino Midena, will dialogue with Luca Ferrario of Trentino Film Commission about trends, languages ​​and issues of a new and interesting critical trend: that of ecocinema.

At 11.30, in the literary living room of MontagnaLibri, the first appointment of this edition with Ciak we uncork, the traditional aperitif with Rotari TrentoDOC bubbles while waiting for the equally traditional Cosa I see today?, a daily meeting – always hosted in the living room of MontagnaLibri – with the director of the film program Mauro Gervasini and the directors present at the Festival, to talk about the films of the day and guide the public to discover the screenings.

Appointments in the afternoon

At 3pm, Palazzo Roccabruna will be the scene of Piwi: vines for the mountain territory and the environment, a conference organized by the Piwi Trentino Association and the Provincial Enoteca of Trentino which intends to reflect on how climate change is also influencing mountain viticulture and what scenarios are expected. Dialogue on the topic will be Giacomo Poletti of the Trentino Alto Adige Weather Association, Trentino viticulture expert Luciano Groff, former oenologist at the FEM Technology Transfer Centre, Riccardo Velasco, vice-president of Piwi Italia and director of the Research Center in Viticulture and Oenology and Silvia Vezzulli, researcher at the FEM Research and Innovation Center.

Also at 3pm, 00A Gallery will host the inauguration of the exhibition Orsigna Montagna Maestra, a visual story by the photographer Alexey Pivovarov which traces the landscapes, places, faces and environments of the Orsigna Valley, capable of enchanting even the great Tiziano Terzani.

Another important inauguration is scheduled for 3.30pm: that of the T4Future section, which will liven up Piazza Fiera for the entire course of the Festival, with a series of workshops and activities dedicated to children and families, linked to the world of the mountains and designed in collaboration with prestigious local partner. After the ribbon cutting, the Open Air Circus show, promoted in collaboration with the Bolla di Sapone association: an unpredictable jukebox and a retro set-up will be the setting for acrobatic feats, bizarre juggling and unlikely tightrope walking. At 4pm, in the literary lounge of MontagnaLibri, Marco Confortola – mountain guide, trainer, helicopter rescue technician and tour leader – will teach the public how to prepare an expedition to the Himalayan land, in an event organized by Viaggia con Carlo.

At 5pm, triple appointment. The first, at Palazzo Roccabruna, with resistant tastings: discovering the Piwi wines of Trentino Alto Adige, an opportunity to taste the best expressions of the wines obtained from these new varieties. At SOSAT, however, a conversation will take place with Mariano Frizzera, organized in collaboration with Montura, during which the CAI academic will talk, in dialogue together with Ezio Amistadi, about his mountaineering and life experiences in the heroic years of the evolution of climbing in the Dolomites. 2 Finally, at the METS – San Michele Trentino Ethnographic Museum, a Workshop-concert will be held for Destination… Ireland with the O’Carolan Trio, conducted by Renato Morelli.

Again starting from 5pm, for the Castello Cent’anni cycle which celebrates the centenary of the Buonconsiglio Museum, Piazza Mostra will first host a meeting with the videomaker and art-influencer Roberto Celestri, entitled Dynamic Museum: does beauty speak to young people?, while at 6pm it will be the turn of Inside, outside, beyond: one hundred years of the Buonconsiglio Castle museum, an event during which the philosopher Umberto Galimberti will talk about the meaning hidden behind the centenary motto “Know thyself”, updating the message of this famous phrase which is engraved in the sixteenth-century marble mirror of the Venetian Loggia. In case of bad weather, the event will take place at the Santa Chiara Auditorium.

At 5.30 pm, the literary salon of MontagnaLibri will see the presentation of Mercanti di luce. Opticians and photographers from Tesis between the 19th and 20th centuries (Publistampa), the latest literary effort – worthy of the “Trentino Special Mention” at the 2024 ITAS Award – by Elda Fietta. The author, in dialogue with Enrico Cereghini, will guide the public on the trail of the Tesi opticians and photographers: merchants, entrepreneurs, innovators and artisans, capable of combining the pragmatism of mountain men with a rare cultural sensitivity.

At 6pm, the conference entitled Presena will take place in the MUSE Conference Room. What remains when a glacier melts, in collaboration with METS – San Michele Trentino Ethnographic Museum, MUSE, Pro Loco of Vermiglio and Center for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights. Luca Faoro of METS, Annibale Salsa of Tsm | step – School for the Government of Territory and Landscape, Christian Casarotto and Mauro Gobbi of MUSE and the director-researchers Federico Scienza and Manuela Boezio will discuss how a small community located at the foot of Presena – and which thrives thanks to tourism – is experiencing the epochal turning point of a glacier in danger of extinction.

For the column An hour to acclimatise, at 7pm in Piazza Cesare Battisti, Marco Albino Ferrari and Camilla Valletti will reflect on the theme Story and mountain, mountain is story, questioning the role of narratives in the process of building mountain imagery. Finally, at 8.30 pm in Piazza Mostra, appointment for Destinazione… Ireland with Bringing everyone home 30 years later. Cisco of the Modena City Ramblers will dialogue with the music critic and radio journalist John Vignola, in a conversation that will also be an opportunity to travel through the history of Irish music, responsible for having inspired the band. Those same sounds will finally be retraced on stage, in the last stage of the spring mini-tour organized by the group to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first album, Riportando tutto a casa. Cinema program

There are so many films not to be missed on this first day of film programming at the Trento Film Festival. 3 In Competition, we highlight the French films Un pasteur by Louis Hanquet (Multisala Modena, Room 2, 5pm, in the presence of the director), the Italian premiere story of a young shepherd, melancholy and reserved, busy raising the family flock and protect him from the danger of wolves, and Pyramiden by Damien Faure (Multisala Modena, Room 3, 3.15 pm), a science fiction and dystopian film, also in its Italian premiere, whose protagonist decides to leave his post-apocalyptic lair in search of lost humanity.

For the Alp&Ism section, L’Everest en partage by Théo Livet (Supercinema Vittoria, 3pm) tells the story, in Italian premiere, of Marc Batard, a now seventy-year-old mountaineer who decides to return to Everest, while Edlinger, la liberté au bout des doigts (Multisala Modena, Room 3, 9.30 pm) by Nils Martin, who will be present in the room, is a documentary capable of paying a heartfelt homage to Patrick Edlinger, icon of emerging sport climbing in the 1980s, as well as emblem of a total and unconventional freedom. A cinematic journey, produced by Johnny Depp, to capture the world through the eyes of a great punk poet, with testimonies from friends and family. Anteprime will instead present the opening film of this 72nd Trento Film Festival, Oura El Jbel by Mohamed Ben Attia (Supercinema Vittoria, 9pm), a film whose protagonist, Rafik, after spending four years in prison, has only one desire : take your son Behind the mountains and show him your incredible discovery.
