Wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson is expected to be named as India’s vice-captain for the three-match ODI series against South Africa, with several senior players expected to be rested ahead of next month’s ICC T20 World Cup. India play a three-match T20I series against South Africa, followed by a three-match ODI series from September 28 to October 11. The Indian squad for the T20I series has already been announced and the squad for the ODI series will be announced soon.
Sanju Samson is likely to be appointed as South Africa’s vice-captain for ODIs. BCCI sources said Samson could be named as India’s vice-captain for the three-match ODI series as most of the senior players are rested for the ICC T20 World Cup. Shikhar Dhawan is likely to lead the team. The 27-year-old Samson, who hails from Kerala, led India to a 3-0 ODI series win over Zimbabwe. He has so far represented India in seven ODIs and 16 T20Is. Samson is currently captaining India A against New Zealand A. Also reports suggest that Rajat Patidar is likely to make his ODI debut against South Africa.

The first T20 match will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on September 28. The second T20I will be played on October 2nd in Guwahati and the last T20I will be played in Indore on October 4th. The first ODI will be played in Lucknow on October 6. The second and third ODIs will be played in Ranchi and Delhi on October 9 and 11 respectively.
