In the Sanremo 2022 Festival, the third edition by Amadeus, there will be no New Proposals category. The two artists who will win Sanremo Giovani will participate in the big competition in February. Among other novelties, a further reduction in the age range to participate in Sanremo Giovani, with artists who must be between 16 and 29 years of age, on 1 January 2022; the 30 selected artists who will access the live auditions will have to propose two unreleased songs to the musical commission, one for Sanremo Giovani, while the second will be presented in case of victory in February in the 72nd edition of the Sanremo Festival.
The 12 finalists of Sanremo Giovani – Wednesday 15 December, from the Teatro del Casinò di Sanremo, live on Rai1 – will first have to pass a series of steps and ‘exams’. The first step will see the artistic director Amadeus and the musical commission chaired by him engaged first in listening to all the pieces in compliance with the participation requirements, then in the choice of the 30 artists who will perform in the live auditions in Hall A in via Asiago. In this phase 8 of the 12 finalists of Sanremo Giovani will be selected. The other four artists who will compose the parterre of the final in December will be chosen, again by the Musical Commission, among the winners of the Sanremo Area contest.
