The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Gonzalo Santonja, assured today that “it could be almost certain” that the daughter of the late writer Fernando Sánchez Dragó, Ayanta Barili, will be in charge of reading his speech during the award ceremony for the Castilla y León Awards 2022. The Madrid writer and adoptive son of Soria since 1992 died last Monday at the age of 86, two weeks before receiving the award that distinguished him as the 2022 Castilla y León Award for Literature.

“The logical thing is that his daughter Ayanta read that speech, and it seems to me that is what will happen,” Santonja said when asked by the media about who will read the speech that the writer left written before his death. The head of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism indicated that it is a decision that falls to the family of Sánchez Dragó, and added that today he would speak with Ayanta Barilli, although he gave “almost certainly” that she will be in charge of reading the speech of his father.

Likewise, when asked by the media about whether this will be the speech that will be read during the awards ceremony, Santonja assured that “it cannot be another”, and recalled that from Wednesday of last week until Sunday he was speaking with Sánchez Dragó on the phone and they exchanged WhatsApp messages about this issue. “He sent me his speech, he asked me some questions, I gave him some insights and he was working on them and he sent me the final speech on Saturday afternoon,” she explained.
