After three races, the Salvadoran Sauking Shi is the best national cyclist of the Tour El Salvador 2024 by placing herself in the top 50 of the competition that brings together 115 athletes.
Shi, who wears the number 41 on his jersey, is a member of the Maca-Electrolit team and in the Surf City Grand Prix he placed 46th, while in the El Salvador Grand Prix, he entered the top 50 squad. Today, in the Grand Prix Presidente, the Salvadoran finished in 61st place.
For the national team, being part of the Tour El Salvador 2024 means having an important training session with high-level international cyclists and, in addition, it allows them to push themselves in each of the races that make up the event.
“The distances have been quite long, the first Grand Prix was hard, quite hot when running along the coast; With the other cyclists we ended up full of salt. Today’s route was more difficult because it had mountains, it was more demanding,” said Shi.
When asked about the rivals she is facing, the national assured that it is an opportunity to evaluate the work that must be done to be able to compete in high-level events.
“Running with these cyclists allows us to evaluate the work we have to do. It is a great introduction, it puts you on the ground to see what level we are at,” said Sauking.
In that sense, the Cuscatleca cyclist made clear her satisfaction with the places she has achieved, taking into account that she is the best placed Salvadoran in the competition.
“Honestly, finishing in the first Grand Prix within the peloton was something important for me, since many competitors retired. Yesterday it cost me a little more, but the important thing is that I finish the race,” said Shi.
The wearer of the number 41 of the Maca-Electrolit team assured that this event is of utmost importance for Salvadoran cyclists, since it adds a touch of extra personal demand.
“That there are events like these is good. As Salvadorans we are showing that we have strength and courage for having taken on this challenge. The recovery work is little, but we already know what we have to do to be well the next day,” said Sauking.
