Scientists have figured out which brain functions improve over time

Doctors have long noticed that thought processes begin to deteriorate with aging. However, it has recently become clear that this is not always the case. Older people are better at some functions than young people.

Research has shown that over the years, attention, memory, concentration, and other cognitive abilities begin to decline. However, the staff at Georgetown University Medical Center believe that the brain of older people has certain advantages. They are better at handling self-control tasks and making decisions based on knowledge and experience. Scientists believe that this is due to the continuous long-term practice of these skills, writes Svenska Dagbladet.

The experiments involved more than 700 people aged 58 to 98 years, when the changes in cognitive functions were most noticeable. At the same time, young participants showed a quick reaction rate, and the older ones showed the ability to concentrate on certain aspects. In addition, another study found that 65-75 year olds drive the most accurately. They are helped in this by the ability to focus on one task and not be distracted by extraneous stimuli.
