Nathan Evans & saint PHNX Surprise Couple with Wedding Performance
A Scottish couple experienced a wedding day they’ll never forget after chart-topping singer Nathan Evans and band Saint PHNX unexpectedly crashed their reception to perform a live set.
Gary and Lynn Liddell, who wed on Wednesday, initially anticipated their evening would conclude with their scheduled wedding DJ. However, the couple received a surprise of a lifetime when the musical duo took the stage at Cornhill castle in Biggar, Lanarkshire.
the unexpected performance was a festivity of the release of Evans and Saint PHNX’s new single, “The Wedding,” a preview of their upcoming album, “angels’ Share,” set to launch on January 16.The artists orchestrated the surprise appearance to personally share their new music with devoted fans gary and Lynn.
while Lynn Liddell was completely unaware of the impending performance, her husband, Gary, was privy to the secret, tasked with maintaining the surprise for a week. “Nathan had asked on his Facebook if any of his fans were getting married,” Gary explained.”We were tagged in it and his team contacted me about it. Then they emailed again saying it was definitely happening.” To maintain the ruse, Gary received a deliberately misleading email from the band’s team, suggesting the performance had fallen through, allowing him to convincingly relay false facts to his wife.
The couple, from Blackwood, Lanarkshire, had planned a full evening of dancing with DJ Zander Nation.Though, as Lynn settled in, the curtains opened to reveal Evans and Saint PHNX. “You could hear a pin drop,” Gary recalled. A family member reportedly exclaimed, “That looks like Nathan Evans… It f***ing is Nathan Evans!” Lynn, initially caught off guard, shared, “I had no idea – I nearly passed out in the chair. I didn’t know who it was because my eyesight is terrible without my glasses.”
The band performed for approximately 25 minutes, including a rendition of “Caledonia,” the song Lynn had walked down the aisle to, making the moment especially poignant. “That was magical,” she said. Gary added, “The day of the wedding, everything went amazingly. It was the best day of our lives. And then to top it all off, Nathan Evans and Saint PHNX Band plays a set for us. Absolutely fantastic.”
The Liddells, who have been together for 12 years, operate their own electrical business, 2 Core Electrics, and are parents to a seven-year-old son, Cody. Evans, a former postie from Airdrie, rose to prominence in 2020 through TikTok, achieving chart-topping success in 2021 with “Wellerman.”
The performance comes on the heels of a successful period for Evans and Saint PHNX,including a sold-out show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro. “The Wedding” exemplifies the band’s signature style, blending compelling storytelling with dynamic production and heartfelt lyrics. their forthcoming album builds on the momentum of previous hits like “Milarrochy Bay,” currently featured on BBC Radio 2’s playlist, as well as “arabella” and “Cotton Eye Joe.”
Beyond the album launch, the band is also set to headline and curate the Heather On The Hill Festival, a family-kind event scheduled for August 22, 2026, at the Royal Highland Center as part of Edinburgh Summer Sessions. The festival lineup includes artists such as Cian Ducrot, Ella Henderson, Skerryvore, Brooke Combe, and NATI, with additional performers to be announced. Tickets for the festival are available for purchase hear.
