Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Abdur Rahman has announced that beef will be sold at Tk 600 in the capital from March 10 on the occasion of Ramadan.

He told this to the journalists after the working session of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Livestock on the second day of the third session of the ‘District Administrators Conference 2024’ at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Monday (March 4) afternoon.

At this time Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar and Agriculture Minister Dr. Md. Abdus Shaheed was present.

Abdur Rahman said that the government will sell fish and meat at affordable prices in Ramadan. It will be available in 30 places in the capital from March 10 to the day before Eid. Milk is also available at affordable prices.

He said, on the occasion of Ramadan, beef will be sold at Tk 600, goat meat at Tk 900 and solid broiler at Tk 280. Besides, eggs will be sold at 10 taka 50 paisa each. This is our interim arrangement. It will be inaugurated on March 10.

When asked whether it will be done across the country, the Livestock Minister said, it will be done in thirty places in Dhaka. I will try to expand these matters to more places according to the ability. There is an urge to sell at a fair price outside Dhaka. Request to traders, don’t try to make more profit by making people suffer.

When asked what instructions have been given to the DCs, the minister said, we will strictly control the market during the month of Ramzan. This time the DCs have agreed to control the market with all their capabilities.

Abdur Rahman said, our main goal in the upcoming Ramadan will be so that people can buy and eat products with ease. We call upon businessmen, do not try to make more profit by making people suffer.

He said that the DCs have agreed on this in this conference. They will not allow the market to destabilize under any circumstances. Avoid tampering with food.

Abdur Rahman said, besides taking legal measures, we have to stay in the moral place. Social campaign should be done, it is sad to increase the price by manipulating the holy month

In response to a question about hilsa conservation, the minister said that the fishermen should be removed from the jatka fishing area. If it stops, hilsa production will increase. As long as the fish can stay in the river, it will grow.

Fisheries Minister said, we are in satisfactory condition in terms of fish production and livestock. We have some other plans in mind for its growth and development. Among our challenges is the current grid. Fish are caught everywhere with it. The fish from which the fish will spread is also caught with the current net. We have told the DCs about this. The nets should be removed by miking. If not, the leadership of the District Administrators will have to take legal measures to seize the nets.

He said, I have stopped catching hilsa for some time to stop Jatka killing. It will start from March 11. In the interim period, I have talked about the system of preparing a proper list of fishermen and bringing them under rationing. Because if we give them an incentive at that time, then they can compensate their loss due to not catching fish.
